giving it my best in all that i do

While I perform decently academically, I found myself struggling during my internship. I faced difficulties applying theoretical STEM concepts into real-world problems. In other words, I realized I was good at studying, not necessarily a good engineer.

This doesn't mean I am a terrible engineer by any means. No one expects a fresh intern to know anything, but the ambitious person in me did want to know everything. I wanted to excel in my discipline, to prove to myself how far I can improve, because I am someone who doesn't know how to half-ass things.

So, I asked my mentor for resources to extensively learn about the company, its departments, and workflow. I allocated daily practice to improve my technical and soft skills, then obtained three certifications from an internationally recognized organization. I diligently executed every task I was assigned, provided more than what was asked, and rigorously jotted notes during every meeting I attended (I ended up completing three notebooks, through which I look back to fondly now). Few months later, I was a recognized intern in my company.

I apply this ideal in all aspects of my life, too. Clueless about fitness? Let me push myself to stick to a workout routine for a month. Struggling in one of my courses? I will allocate a few hours of deep work in the library till I comprehend it. Wanting to improve my writing skills? I will challenge myself with a diary entry everyday.

Perfection is an unattainable ideal, and I am fully aware I will never be a "perfect" engineer, hobbyist, person, nor do I aspire to be. However, I find striving to excel at everything we do an inspiring mindset that I actively cultivate in every area of my life. Do not aim for perfection, but aim to give it your best in all that you do.
